Program Requirements
__Completed Program Application and
__Hold a bachelor's degree from a accredited institution of higher education
__Overall grade point average of 2.5 on all coursework taken or a grade point average
of 2.6 in the last 60 semester hours of completed coursework
__ For generalist a minimum of a 2.5 GPA for 24 hours in English, Mathematics,
and a combination of Sciences and a combination of Sciences and Social Sciences.
__Provide evidence of required competency in Reading, Writing, and Mathematics in
at least one of the following areas or a combination:
__Masters Degree or Higher or
__Graduate Record Exam Verbal and Quantitative score of 500 or higher each or
__SAT composite score of 1100 with a minimum of 550 in both verbal
and quantitative or
__ACT composite score of 23 with a minimum of 20 in both reading and math
__College Coursework:
Reading - Freshman level English Literature with a minimum of a "B"
Writing - Freshman level English Composition with a minimum of "B"
Mathematics - College level Mathematics with a minimum of "B" or
__Three parts of Texas Higher Education Assessment (THEA) passed with the
Minimum scores of : Reading – 230; Math – 230; Writing – 240 or
__Two parts of Watson-Glaser Critical Thinking Test passed with the minimum
score of 42 on Subsets 2-5 required with only 1 retake allowed on site
__On-site Interview
__3 Letters of Recommendation
__Passing scores on Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or Test of
Spoken English (TSE) for students graduating from a university with a language
of instruction other than English

Bilingual Generalist Requirements
EC-4 Generalist, EC-4 Bilingual Generalist,4-8 Generalist and 4-8 Bilingual
Generalist:
* a minimum of a 2.5 GPA for 24 hours in English,
Mathematics, and a combination of Sciences and
a combination of Sciences and Social Sciences.
* additionally for EC-4 or 4 - 8 Bilingual Generalist: a
2.5 GPA for 6+ hours in Spanish/proficiency in
Spanish
For 4 -8 certification:
* a minimum of a 2.5 GPA for 24 hours in single
specialized training area (Mathematics, or English
Language Arts and Reading) and a 2.6 GPA for
12 advanced hours of the 24.
* for Science: a 2.5 GPA for 24 hours from a
combination of 3 or 4 areas: Biology, Chemistry,
Physics, or Geology/Astronomy and 2.6 GPA for
12 advanced hours of the 24.
* for Social Studies: a 2.5 GPA for 24 hour
combination of History, Government, or Geography/
Economics and a 2.6 GPA for 12 advanced hours
of the 24.
* for English Language Arts-Reading and Social
Studies: a 2.5 GPA for 12 hours of English, and
12 hours from a combination of History, Government
or Geography/Economics and a 2.6 GPA for 6
advanced hours of English and 6 advanced hours
from a combination of the Social Studies
* for Mathematics/Science: a 2.5 GPA for 12 hours
of Math and 12 hours from a combination of
Biology, Chemistry, Physics, or Geology/
Astronomy and a 2.6 for 6 advanced hours in
Mathematics and 6 advanced hours from any of the
Sciences
EC-4 Generalist, EC-4 Bilingual Generalist,4-8 Generalist and 4-8 Bilingual
Generalist:
* a minimum of a 2.5 GPA for 24 hours in English,
Mathematics, and a combination of Sciences and
a combination of Sciences and Social Sciences.
* additionally for EC-4 or 4 - 8 Bilingual Generalist: a
